Press Statement by Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Member of Parliament
“I have been saying for long - that the conspiracy of silence in our country about child sexual abuse must be broken. Hundreds of thousands of our children who look forward to a happy childhood suffer abuse and assaults from predators who remain unchallenged and unprosecuted. I have always maintained that child sexual abuse is a form of terrorism against children. As a civilized and law abiding nation, we must never allow religious, political and ideological beliefs to come in the way of protecting our children from such heinous crimes.
The sexual assault charges made by journalist VP Rajeena and film-maker Ali Akbar in Kerala are very serious. The Kerala state government must immediately order investigations into these charges and determine if crimes against children are being committed in certain educational institutions – failing which I will hold the Government negligent and approach the courts on behalf of these children”.
