Wakf Properties in the Country

4200.

SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR

 Will the Minister of MINORITY AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(a)    whether a large number of Wakf properties in the county are either under adverse possession or are fetching nominal rents, thereby causing extreme financial loss to the Wakfs;

(b)    if so, the details thereof, State-wise and category-wise and

(c)    the steps proposed to be taken to improve the situation to increase the income of the Wakfs to satisfactory level?

(a)   Yes, Sir.

(b)   Information received from states Governments / State Wakfs Boards regarding illegal occupation / encroachment of wakf properties is at Annexure A.

(c)   Action for the removal of encroachments is to be taken by the State Wakf Boards, in accordance with the provisions of the Wakf Act, 1995. The Central Government has, from time to time, impressed upon the State Governments, the need for effective action to remove encroachments on Wakf properties.

The Central Wakf Council, under its Scheme for the development of urban wakf properties, has been extending loans for the development of wakf properties.

1186 cases of encroachment and other misuse of wakf properties have been detected.
