Terrorist Plots in Karnataka .

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(a) the details of terrorist plots and terror suspects recently detected in the State of Karnataka;

(b) the names of districts that have been infiltrated;

(c) whether the terrorist outfits involved have connections, if any, with foreign countries and organizations; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): A statement is laid on the Table of the House.

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 187 FOR 12.3.2008 REGARDING “TERRORIST PLOTS IN KARNATAKA”

(a) to (d): According to information provided by the Government of Karnataka, two persons were arrested on suspicion that they were riding a stolen two-wheeler. During interrogation, they revealed their activities and plans to commit serial blasts and other serious offences. On the basis of investigations, 5 more persons were arrested taking the total number of persons arrested to 07. Investigation have also revealed that some persons, including the arrested persons, had held meetings in Hubli city, Dharwad district and Uttara Kannada district. One of the arrested persons, Nasir is reported to have been trained in Pakistan and had connections with Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT). Some of the others, who had attended the meetings, are reported to be members of the banned organisation SIMI. Further investigations are continuing.
