Steps to Improve Game of Cricket.

SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR :

Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:-

(a)  whether in view of India`s dismal performance in Cricket World Cup, 2007, Government propose in consultation with and the help of BCCI, and its affiliated units, to take steps to improve the game in the country from junior school level and above ; and

(b)  if so, the details thereof and by when a final decision is likely to be taken in the matter?

(a) & (b) : The promotion of cricket in the country is the responsibility of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is an autonomous body registered under the Societies Registration Act 1860. BCCI have reviewed the performance of the Indian Team in the ICC World Cup 2007 in consultation with former captains of the Indian Cricket Team. Based on the inputs received, the BCCI is taking necessary steps for improving the preparation of the Indian Cricket Team for participation in major events, which include intensive training inputs in different aspects of the game; norms in terms of minimum level of participation in domestic competitions ; encouraging young players with potential etc.
