IMPACT OF DATA LOCALIZATION

Will the Minister of Electronics and Information Technology be pleased to state:

(a) whether Government has conducted any study of the overall impact of data localization on ease of doing business and cost of doing business; and

(b) the details thereof?

(a) and (b): The Government constituted a Committee of Experts on Data Protection, chaired by Justice (Retd) B.N.Srikrishna, Supreme Court of India to study various issues relating to data protection. The Committee examined various aspects related to data protection. Cost- benefit analysis of transfer of personal data outside India has been discussed in detail in chapter 6 of the report.
