(b) what steps Government will take to crack down and eradicate these criminal enterprises and those behind them and to ensure that our cities are safe for all citizens and their families to live in, since these criminal enterprises constitute a national security threat and a threat to the safety of the common citizens?

ANSWER

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS (SHRI G. KISHAN REDDY)

(a) & (b): 'Police' and ‘Public Order' are State subjects under the Seventh Schedule to the Constitution of India. The responsibility to maintain law and order, protection of life and property rest with the respective States/Union Territories. However, the Government gives highest priority to issues of national security and safety of citizens of the country. Accordingly, in matters of organized crimes with complex inter-state and international linkages, the Central Law Enforcement agencies have actively ensured preventive and investigative actions which have supplemented the efforts of States/Union Territories.
