Modernisation of Police Force of Karnataka

 

1038. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(a) What is the present status of modernization of State police force of Karnataka;

(b) The details of the last action plan of the State approve d by Government;

(c) The details of the Central fun d s released to the State for implementation of the action plan approved by Government; and

(d) What other me a sure s have been initiated to modernize the police force of Karnataka?

(a): The details of funds released by the Ministry of Home Affairs to the State Government of Karnataka under the Scheme for Modernization of State Police Forces during the years 2005-06 to 2009-10 and its utilization status is as under:

Funds under the Scheme were released, Inter-alia, for construction of police stations, barracks, acquisition of vehicles, weaponry, security /surveillance/ communication equipment, equipment for forensic science laboratory, training Infrastructure, police housing etc.

 (b) to (d) : The Central allocation made for Karnataka under MPF Scheme 2010-11 was Rs.6 2.16 crore (Part A) and Rs .44.73 crore (Part B). The Ministry of Home Affairs had approved MPF Action Plan, 201 0-11 of Karnataka in two parts, Part A for Rs. 89.0 8 crore (Rs.66.8 1 crore Central Share and Rs.22.27 crore State share an d Part B of Rs.53.44 crore (R s.40.08 crore Central share and Rs .1 3.36 crore State share). Out of the Central allocation of Rs.62.16 crore in Part A, an amount of Rs.60.55 crore was released to the State Government towards implementation of the approved

Action Plan 2010·11 as per details given below:

An amount of Rs.1 .61 crore was retained in the Ministry of Home Affairs being the unspent balance s which remained with the State Government out of Central funds released upto 2008 – 09.

Apart from the above, the Ministry of Home Affairs released an amount of Rs.0.379 crore out of Contingency Reserve under MPF Scheme towards establishment of Anti-Human Trafficking Units. Also an additional fund of Rs.22.08 crore was released in cash t o the State Government of Karnataka in 201 Q.11. Thus, a total amount of Rs.8 3.0 1 crore was released to the State Government o f Karnataka under MPF Scheme in 2010-11.
