Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Ordinance
 

264. SHRI. RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR: 

Will the Minister of MINES be pleased to state: 

(a)   whether the Ministry has received any memorandum from the KarnatakaGovernment requesting it to consider consulting State Governments prior toimplementing the new Mines and Minerals Development Regulation Ordinance; and 

(b)   if so, the details thereof and the decision taken thereon?

(a): No Sir. 

(b): The draft Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) (Amendment) Bill,2014 seeking to amend the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation)(MMDR) Act, 1957 along with the Explanatory Note explaining the provisions of theproposed draft Bill was placed on the website of the Ministry on 17.11.2014 calling forcomments/ suggestions on the draft Bill. 

Comments/suggestions were invited from the general public, Governments of Statesand Union Territories, Mining Industry, Stake Holders, Industry Associations, andother persons and entities concerned, on the draft Bill. Comments in this regard werereceived also from the Government of Karnataka.

The MMDR Act, 1957 was amended through the Mines and Minerals (Developmentand Regulation) Amendment Ordinance, 2015 on 12th January, 2015.
