Legal challenges faced by TRAI

Will the Minister of COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Ministry has taken steps to address the lack of capacity in the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to ensure that the regulator is able to tackle the challenges o=f a fast evolving, disruptive technology and innovation landscape;

(b) whether Government has taken note of the legal challenges faced by TRAI in regulating issues of consumer interest/protection and taken steps to amend the legislation to give more powers to TRAI to ensure consumer protection; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) There is no lack of capacity in Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to tackle the challenges of a fast evolving, disruptive technology and innovation landscape.

(b) & (c) Proposal to amend TRAI Act is under consideration which also addresses issues of consumer interest/protection.
