Intangible Cultural Heritage Tag

 

1087: SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR: 

Will the MINISTER OF CULTURE be pleased to state: 

(a)   whether Government has issued directives to all States to prepare a list of culturalpractices which could be submitted for nominations for inscription in the'Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage'; 

(b)   if so, the details thereof; 

(c)    the list of rituals/festivities/practices from Karnataka that were enlisted to seekUNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) tag; 

(d)   the steps Government proposes to procure ICH tag to those enlisted; and 

(e)   the other monuments in Karnataka that are pending with Government to seekUNESCO's world heritage site tag?

(a) to (d): Yes Sir. During the course of 2ndcycle of nominations for Inscription onUNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), all StateGovernments/UTs as well as organizations under the Ministry of Culture were requested tosend the suitable proposals, in the prescribed proforma, for consideration. Accordingly,Ministry received inter-alia following 6 nomination proposals from the Karnataka Government: 

(1)   Mahamastakabisheka,
(2)   Mysore Dasara,
(3)   Kodavas of Kodagu
(4)   Leather Puppetery,
(5)   Yakshagana and
(6)   Soligaru (Tribal of B.R. Hills). 

As the nomination documentation were incomplete, they could not be sent toUNESCO for consideration. 

(e): No proposal for World Heritage site tag for a monuments in Karnataka is pendingwith this Ministry.
