QUESTION
Inclusion of Kodava and Tulu Languages in Eighth Schedule
2266. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR
Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state;
(a) whether Government proposes to include Kodava and Tulu languages, widely spoken in Karnataka, in the eighth schedule of the Constitution of India; and
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (b): At present, there are demands for inclusion of 38 languages including Kodava & Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution of India. The criteria for inclusion of languages into the Eighth Schedule are being evolved in consultation with the concerned Departments/Ministries of the Government of India. The pending representations for inclusion of languages into the Eighth Schedule could be considered only after a set of criteria are evolved and finally approved.
