Answer
MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (SHRI PRAKASH JAVADEKAR)

The Ministry has provided financial assistance of Rs.10.62 crore for in-situ lake cleaning and lake front development works of five lakes in Bengaluru namely, Vengaiahkere, Nagvara, Jarganahalli, Lalbagh and Bellandur under the scheme of National Lake Conservation Plan / National Plan for Conservation of Aquatic Eco-systems. The works under the scheme have been completed.
Discharge of untreated sewage generated in the city is one of the major sources of pollution of lakes in Benguluru. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has informed that Central funds amounting to Rs. 280.13 crore have been received under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) programme of Ministry of Urban Development for implementation of various sewerage works in the city. Also, the BWSSB have informed that another sewerage project in Bengaluru at an estimated cost of Rs. 724.80 crore has been sanctioned under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) programme of Ministry of Urban Development, with Central share of Rs. 239.18 crore. Apart from other benefits, these projects aim at rejuvenating the lakes in Bengaluru by reducing the pollution load being discharged into them.
