Drought in Karnataka
2650. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:
Will the Minister of Agriculture be pleased to state:
(a) The number of districts in Karnataka that have been declared drought hit this year, with details thereof; and
(b) The relief measures proposed to be taken by Government for the farmers of these districts?

(a) 99 taluks of 23 districts in Karnataka have been declared affected by drought by the Government of Karnataka this year. Districts declared drought affected are:-Ramanagar, Kolar,.. Chikkaballapura, Tumkur, Chitradurga, Chamarajanagar, Mysore, Mandya, Bellary, Koppal, Raichure, Gulburga, Yadgiri, Bidar, Bagalkote, Bijapour; Gadag, Dharwad, Hasan, Chikkarnagalur, Belguam, Davangere and Haveri.
(b) The State Government is primarily responsible for taking immediate necessary measures in the wake of identified natural calamities. For this purpose State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has been constituted for each State, with contributions from Central and State Governments in the ratio of 3:1 for normal category states, which includes Karnataka. Government of India supplements efforts of the affected state by providing financial and logistic support. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) has been constituted to visit the drought affected areas of the State to assess the loss and recommend the financial assistance for relief measures.
