(a)        the number of proposals submitted by the State Government of Karnataka for the development of tourism in that State and pending at present for clearance by the Centre;

(b)        the details of each proposal; and

 (c)        the number, out of them, likely to be cleared by the end of 2009-10 with details of the Central assistance to be provided in each case?

STATEMENT IN REPLY TO PARTS (a), (b) AND (c) TO RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.108 ANSWERED ON 24.02.2009 REGARDING DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM IN KARNATAKA

(a) to (c): Development and promotion of places of tourist interests is primarily the responsibility of State Governments/Union Territory Administrations including Karnataka. However, the Ministry of Tourism provides central financial assistance for the project proposals submitted by the State Governments/UT Administrations under various schemes.

During 2008-09, the following project proposals have been received in the Ministry of Tourism from the Govt. of Karnataka:

Project proposals that are complete, are appraised as per scheme guidelines on inter-se-priority and funds sanctioned, subject to availability under the respective head.
