Corruption in Implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Karnataka

1970. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:

 Will the Minister of RURAL DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state;

 (a)   whether the National Level Monitoring (NLM) Committee has reported rampant corruption of nearly Rs. 1,670 crore in the implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in Karnataka during the last three years;

(b)   if so, the details thereof;

(c)    whether the findings of the high level committee has been shared with the State Government; and

(d)   the action taken by Government against the culprits?

(a) to (d): No Sir. During the last three years, the National Level Monitor in the enquiry report has observed a case of financial misappropriation to the tune of Rs. 67,000 in the districts of Karnataka. The enquiry reports have been sent to State Government for appropriate action. Based on the reports, the State government has recovered the misappropriated amount and documentary evidence on recovery has been produced to this Ministry. Further, the State Government in the action taken report has mentioned that, departmental enquiry has been initiated against the delinquent officers.
