Cleaning of Polluted Rivers in Karnataka
4361. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT AND FORESTS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the rivers in Karnataka which are marked as 'Polluted River' by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB);
(b) whether Government provides grants for cleaning up of these rivers; and
(c) if so, the details of grants provided to Karnataka for the purpose during last three years?

(a) Certain stretches of rivers Bhadra, Tunga, Tungabhadra, Laxmantirtha, Kali, Krishna, Hundri, Kundu, Arkavati, and Malaprabha in Karnataka have been designated as 'Polluted River Stretches' by the Central Pollution Control Board.
(b) & (c) This Ministry is supplementing the efforts of the State Governments in abatement of pollution in rivers under the National River Conservation Plan by providing assistance for works relating to sewerage and sewage treatment plants, low cost sanitation, river front development, crematoria etc. The projects are implemented on a 70:30 cost sharing basis between the Central and State Governments. During the last three years, an amount of Rs.0.96 crore has been released to Karnataka under the Plan.
