Central Assistance for Drinking Water in Cities.

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:-

(a) whether there is a proposal under consideration of Government to provide assistance to ten cities in the country which would undertake to provide drinking water to the population throughout the day and all the seven days in the week, i.e. on 24x7 basis;

(b) if so, the names of cities where such projects are proposed to be undertaken and the basis on which Central assistance is to be provided; and

STATEMENT

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO RAJYA SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 207 FOR 13.03.2008 REGARDING CENTRAL ASSISTANCE FOR DRINKING WATER IN CITIES.

(a)to(c): There is no such specific proposal for any group of ten cities. However, the Central Government has sanctioned 44 water supply projects in the country at a total approved cost of Rs.3832.14 crore under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission with the objective of providing continuous water supply (24x7) in the areas covered by projects. List of these projects along with names of cities and target date of completion is annexed.
