Assistance and Recognition to Universities and Colleges in Punjab and Karnataka.

Will the Minister of HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:-

(a) whether proposals/requests from universities and colleges in Punjab and Karnataka, for recognition and financial assistance, are at present, pending with the University Grants Commission;

(b) if so, the details thereof, indicating, inter alia, the date of receipt of the proposals/requests by the U.G.C., case-wise and State-wise; and

(c) by when the decision thereon is likely to be taken, case-wise and State-wise?

(a) & (b) : From Punjab, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has received a proposal from Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, Patiala on the 9th Oct. 2007 for financial assistance under Section 12. (B) of UGC Act.,1956. There are no pending proposals in respect of universities or colleges from Karnataka.

(c) :Every proposal for recognition and financial assistance received from colleges / universities in the UGC is examined as per the provisions of the UGC guidelines that include inter-alia, spot assessment of infrastructure and academic facilities available in such colleges / universities by an Expert Committee of the UGC. Decision to grant recognition and provide financial assistance or otherwise is taken upon consideration of the Committee’s recommendations on the merits of each case and therefore, no time limit can be prescribed.
