ALLOCATION OF WHEAT TO KARNATAKA

820. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:

Will the minister of consumer affairs, food and public distribution be pleased to state:

(a)    The annual allocation of rice and wheat to Karnataka under APL category of PDS during the last three years, year- wise;

(b)   Whether Karnataka Government has made a representation for higher allocation if rice and wheat under APL category; and

(c)    If so, the details thereof and the action government has taken thereon?

(a)    The details of allocations, including adhoc additional allocations made to Karnataka for the Above Poverty Line(APL) category under the Targeted Public Distribution System  (TPDS) are as per Annex

(b)    & (c): No request for higher allocation of rice/wheat under APL category has been received during the current year from Karnataka. However, taking into consideration availability of stocks of foodgrains in the Central Pool and the requests received from various States, additional allocations of foodgrains have been made to States/UTs, including Karnataka, from time to time. The monthly APL allocation to Karnataka has been increased from 63,080 MTs to 94,620 MTs from June 2011.
