Restructuring of Public Sector Banks (PSBs)

1004. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR: 

Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state: 

(a)   whether Government feels the need to restructure the Public Sector Banks (PSBs) inIndia; 

(b)   if so, the details thereof; 

(c)    whether Government is planning to move all PSBs into a holding company which is thenmanaged with an objective to make these banks perform like private sector banks; 

(d)   if so, the details thereof; and 

(e)   if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (e): The Government is conscious of the need to restructure the Public Sector Banksin India. Various options are being examined with a view to arrive at the most optimalsolution which caters to the need for re-capitalisation as well as making Banks moreefficient
