Recommendation of an Industrialist for Padma Award
2267. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:
Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state;
(a) whether Government is aware that an erstwhile Chairman of the Finance Commission had recommended the name of an industrialist for the Padma Shri Award;
(b) if so, whether Government investigates any potential conflict of interest behind such recommendations; and
(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a): Yes Sir.
(b)&(c): Recommendations for Padma Awards are invited every year from all the State/UT Governments, Ministries/Departments of the Government of India, Bharat Ratna and Padma Vibhushan awardees and selected Institutes of Excellence. Recommendations are also received from several other sources like Governors, Chief Ministers of States, Central/State Ministers, MPs, MLAs and various other organizations/bodies/private individuals etc. The character and antecedents of the persons shortlisted for Padma Awards by the Padma Awards Committee are subjected to verification by premier investigating/intelligence agencies of the Government.
