Price Manipulation by Oil Marketing Companies

378. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR: 

Will the Minister of CORPORATE AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a)   whether it is a fact that three PSU Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) recently resorted to a simultaneous increase and subsequent decrease in petrol prices;

(b)   if so, the details thereof;

(c)    whether the Competition Commission of India (CCI) has conduced any investigation in the matter; and

(d)   if so, the details thereof and the steps taken by Government to prevent such instances of anti-competitive behavior or cartelization in the future?

 (a) to (d) The Competition Commission of India, which is a Quasi-Judicial Regulatory Body, is seized of the matter and would consider the same as per the provisions of the Competition Act, 2002.
