Loss Due to Excessive Rains and Floods.

Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(a)        the extent of loss in terms of men and material including crops suffered by various States in the country this year, due to excessive rains and floods; and

(b)        the extent to which Government provided funds and other assistance from the Disaster Management Fund for the relief and rehabilitation of those affected thereby, State wise?

(a) to (b): As per the information received from the State Governments and Union Territories, based on their preliminary assessment, estimated loss due to heavy rains/ floods/ flash floods/ landslides during South-west monsoon 2007, State-wise, are at Annexure-I.

A statement showing the allocation & release of Central Share of Calamity Relief Fund (CRF) and funds released from National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) during the year 2007-08 is at Annexure-II.

Additional allocation of 2.00 lakh MT rice & 1.00 lakh MT wheat & 10,000 KL of Kerosene oil was made to Bihar, 10,333 MT rice & 600 MT wheat to West Bengal and 10,000 MT rice to Assam, as requested by them. Transportation of fodder by rail from Punjab to the affected districts in Bihar was organized at no cost to the State Government.
