Introduction of New License Norms for Driving
257. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government proposes to introduce new license norms, including putting an upper age limit on people eligible to drive in the country;
(b) if so, by when such norms are likely to be implemented; and
(c) how Government proposes to address the impact of this move on
the active senior citizen who drive their own vehicles?

(a)&(b) In order to review the Motor Vehicles Act,1988 in a comprehensive manner, the Government has constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of Shri S.Sunder, Distinguished Fellow, The Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) and former Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport. The Committee has been mandated to look into the various aspects of administration and regulation of vehicular traffic in the country, which includes review of the system of grant of driving license, permit and other safety related issues.
The nature and outcome of the deliberation of the Committee at present is not known to the Government. However, there is no proposal to fix upper age limit for getting driving license/driving a motor vehicle.
