Internet Governance

 

690. SHRI RAJEEV CHANDRASEKHAR: 

Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state: 

(a)   The rationale behind Government's decision not to extend support to the Statement ofPrinciples agreed at the NETmundial Global Multistakeholder Meeting; and 

(b)   the country's stance on the Multistakeholder approach towards Internet Governance?

(a): The NETmundial outcome document was not in conformity with theGovernment of India's Initial Submission to Net Mundial. The Initial Submissionstated that, "the Internet Governance should be multilateral, transparent,democratic, and representative, with the participation of governments, privatesector, civil society, and international organizations, in their respective roles. Thisshould be one of the foundational principles of Internet Governance"; whereas theoutcome document agreed upon at the NETmundial meeting favoured amultistakeholder approach.

 (b): The Government is examining the matter and a considered view will be taken.
