ANSWER

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS

(RAO INDERJIT SINGH)

(a) The Government recognizes the importance of eradication of corruption in the country.  In so far as corruption and malgovernance in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) is concerned, the State Governments / ULBs are competent to take appropriate steps under relevant State laws.

(b) There is no such proposal as of now. Urban Development is a State subject and Government of India has been supporting the efforts of State Governments in improving urban governance, ensuring citizen participation and transparency through various reform oriented schemes.
